Being a Dad is tough. When I'm busy at work, my mind isn't in the game at home. All it takes is for some crisis to come along and I can become disconnected from Karen and the kids. I've found that committing to specific routines can really make a difference.

Accountability helps. My friend Tim just wrote me the following:

I have been convicted recently that I need to be more intentional with my kids when it comes to their spiritual life. I spend a fair amount of time with them, but I sometimes realize that the time spent could have been more intentional. Last night I asked Jacob (age 7) why he thought I liked traveling and teaching and he said, "because you like telling others about God! I was then able to have a conversation with him about spiritual issues. I asked him if he would like to go on some trips with me in the future and teach others about Christ. He thought that would be pretty cool."

Tim has got the right idea. Be intentional. Talk about it with friends who will hold you accountable. Deciding to change is just the first step.
