One of the things that made the Church Lady so funny was her "Superior Dance." She put her hands on her hips, pursed her lips, and scooted like Little Richard across the floor. It was funny partly because at some point in our lives, we'd all seen a supercilious, cardboard cutout, super-Christian looking down her long, arrogant nose at us.

The Church Lady was perpetually offended at someone and passing judgment on them. I love Andrew Shearman's teaching about being unoffendable. Too many of us find ourselves getting offended. It's the very thing that turns pagans off and makes us offensive to
them. Do you squirm when things aren't as they should be? If someone says something that is inappropriate, are you appalled or occasionally shocked?

Andrew makes the point that Jesus was the rock of offense. If we're going to be offended at anyone, we should be offended at him. He succeeded in offending just about everyone accept for a few die-hard disciples, and he'd probably offend us as well. Yet very little offended him except hypocrites.

Our politically correct culture gets offended at everything these days. How refreshing to choose to go against the grain. If you choose to be unoffendable, then you can get out of the way and let Jesus do the offending.
